Local officials and area residents are all invited to take part in a public forum on Tuesday, May 24 to discuss the potential impacts of the proposed state budget.
The open discussion will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Athens Community Center, and all area residents are invited. The event is being coordinated by Athens County Job and Family Services and One Ohio Now, a coalition of organizations from across the state advocating for a balanced solution to Ohio’s budget problems.
The current budget proposal is calling for significant cuts in a wide range of budget areas, including education and social services. Athens County Job and Family Services, for example, is facing a funding cut of more than $2 million in the current budget proposal.
State budget cuts as currently proposed will lead to reductions in state and local services, layoffs and countless numbers of negative effects in southeastern Ohio communities and across the state.
All area residents are invited to take part in the public forum.
