1.75 million Ohioans now living in poverty

New figures from the U.S. Census Bureau show that more than 1.75 million people in Ohio are now living in poverty. The Census figures also show that the number of people living in poverty in Ohio increased significantly from 2008 to 2009. Currently, 15.2% of all people in the state live below the poverty line. Poverty is a crisis in Ohio and in America, and it is time for our political leaders to take action to help these families in need. 43.6 million Americans are living in poverty

New figures released by the U.S. Census Bureau today (Sept. 16, 2010) show that 43.6 million Americans are living in poverty. These new figures, which are for 2009, show an increase of nearly 4 million people over the number of people living in poverty in 2008. The Census figures also show that 15.5 million children under the age of 18 are living in poverty. This is an increase of 1.4 million children living in poverty in just one year.
