The tax assistance program at The Work Station in The Plains is now open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to help area residents with their basic income tax forms.
The Ohio Benefit Bank is coordinating the tax assistance program this year, and all appointments must be scheduled through the Ohio Benefit Bank and not through The Work Station. The number to call to schedule an appointment is 1-800-385-6813, extension 2236.
The program was initially assisting taxpayers at The Work Station on Wednesdays and Fridays. Because of strong demand for this free service, though, the program is now also at the Work Station on Thursdays.
In order to be eligible to receive assistance with their income tax forms, area residents must have an annual income that is at or below $60,000. Area residents who are self-employed may also be able to receive assistance, as long as their expenses do not exceed $5,000.
The program provides assistance for area residents who are filing basic tax returns and in most cases cannot assist taxpayers who have to report items like capital gains or rental income.
Trained volunteers are available at The Work Station from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays to assist area residents with their taxes.
The program also provides tax assistance at the Second Harvest Regional Food Center in Logan on Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon.
