More than 200 area residents take part in hiring event for new JoAnn Fabric and Craft Store
When JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores held a hiring event at The Work Station for its new store in Athens recently, the managers were hoping for a good turnout of people interested in working for the company.
The response from the community far exceeded their hopes, though, as more than 200 people showed up to apply for jobs during the two-day event, according to JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores District Team Leader Ron Veach.
Out of the more than 200 applicants, the JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores representatives spoke to a large number of area residents who had the time availability, experience and enthusiasm needed to help the new store become successful, Veach said. These applicants were invited back to take part in orientation sessions and begin working.
The Grand Opening for the new Joann Fabric and Craft store in Athens is set for Aug. 8. Anyone who wants to apply in the future for jobs with the store will need to do so online. The store will not accept paper applications, Veach said.
Veach was thankful for the support he received from The Work Station and he recommended that more businesses and organizations work with the facility for assistance with hiring employees and other services.
“I think it is an underutilized asset for a lot of companies,” Veach said about The Work Station. “The resources here can help a lot of hiring managers.” The staff members at The Work Station, he added, were extremely helpful and friendly.
“I’ve never seen an operation that has so much to offer someone looking for a job,” Veach said. “It’s comforting to know that places like this exist out here.”
